Last year, the GRM team pulled together Low Carbon Logistics - a three-day event part of Glasgow’s COP26 programme - in just eight weeks.
Low Carbon Logistics was an event designed to raise the profile and recognition of low carbon transitions in the rail and road freight sectors, highlighting the significance of “Pulling Together for Net Zero”. It took place from the 8th to the 10th of November 2021.
GRM was originally contacted by several organisations including Mossend International Railfreight Park (MIRP), Scottish Enterprise, Transport Scotland and Network Rail in October 2021, 10 weeks in advance of COP26. GRM was asked to develop and deliver a low carbon identity and brand event at MIRP.
This involved inviting international freight delegates, politicians, supporters and manufacturers to come together to discuss the transition to net zero and lowering emissions in the sector. We immediately understood the task at hand and the challenges we faced. This being the delivery of a large corporate identity, manufacturing all communication systems, and delivering a clear and concise message that would produce and attract a high profile audience to the event.
The first stage of the Low Carbon Logistics project was to deliver and design a brand identity. The second stage involved creating project communications goals and ambitions that were viable and measurable.. The third stage was to identify delegates that would be interested in attending Low Carbon Logistics. The target set by the four organisations was to have a total of 350 high-quality delegates in attendance at Mossend who would already be in Glasgow for COP26.
This event was of high significance as it focused people’s attention on a relatively unknown movement outside of the industry - the transition to net zero in rail and on roads. With our partners, GRM managed the laying of 900m of new track at MIRP (connected to the electrified West Coast Main Line), which brought sustainable freight and locomotives into MIRP for the event. GRM also organised keynote speakers from within the industry who attended the event.
In summary, GRM designed, developed and implemented a large low carbon footprint event over eight weeks, bringing in 580 high quality delegates as well as Scottish and British transport government ministers and leaders in Transport Scotland, MIRP, Network Rail and Scottish Enterprise.
