GRM played a pivotal role in bringing the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race to Oban, delivering Scotland's first international offshore yacht race in a major coup for the country.

GRM worked closely with the Clipper Ventures team to identify suitable locations to host the yachts, bring together key parties and stakeholders and negotiate the deal to bring the international spectacle to Scottish shores for the first time. The team also worked with Argyll and Bute Council to advise on the event and provide all parties involved with a clear understanding of the event and the potential opportunities that it could bring.

GRM was proud to be the first on the water to welcome the first boat into Oban from their Atlantic crossing, and they shot footage that was used by major media outlets such as STV News on their event coverage. Working closely with a broad network of journalists GRM ensured the race received wide coverage nationally.

During the race festival, GRM also met with sponsored athlete Laura Hampton and sponsors Royal Dee Yacht Club, providing PR following her success in the race as Team Unicef AQP.

GRM also had the honour of hosting a number of senior Chinese delegates during the race, providing them with first-rate hospitality and a taste of Scotland courtesy of Whisky giants Gordon & MacPhail. The guests were then treated to an amazing spectacle on the water as they witnessed the yachts in action for the parade of sail and race start.

The team were on hand to capture stunning footage of the event and delivered content across social media and PR channels, gaining strong national coverage and attention.

The event proved to be a marvellous success for the town and Scotland's sailing scene, putting the West Coast on the map for future events and showcasing the country to a new wave of international visitors. GRM undertook a quantitative economic impact report as part of their work to outline the significant economic benefit the race had on the region during its stay and to highlight the exceptional ROI that it provided to organisers who sponsored the host port.
