GRM were contracted by mercury records to move all the Fame Academy finalists around the UK in a tour to gain momentum. Dave Sneddon was one of the finalists from Paisley and was due to be greeted by the Provost of Paisley in the town hall, backed by our radio partners, Radio Clyde.
Dave Sneddon’s flight was delayed, and there were over 100 people waiting in the town hall for David as part of a filmed tribute to be shown on Fame Academy. GRM were left to entertain the 100 people who were waiting; we used a karaoke machine and asked for volunteers from the audience to perform as a way to keep the audience occupied while David Sneddon was on his way.
The acts got mixed responses, until a young guy called Paolo Nutini got up and sang. The whole mood of the audience changed.
David Sneddon then arrived and the show went on. After the show, GRM approached Paolo and asked for his phone number - he gave us his parents chip shop phone number! Brendan Moon decided after negotiations to meet and hear Paolo and that was the start of Paolo’s music career.
GRM promoted Paolo by taking him to music venues around the UK as part of the Jim Bean tour.
Below is some footage of Paolo performing on the Jim Bean tour.
